Here’s a new max 5 patch to play with. Some interesting sounds can be created with this. Drag and drop a sample folder to each drop box and then choose a sample from the list below. Make sure DAC is switched on and drag the curser over the wave/s. No further instructions given here. Just experiment.
Here is a simple tool for making drum samples by mixing two samples together. Load a drum sample in one player and a long noisy granular/white noise/distorted sample in the other (e.g. a sound file made with the Geiger Granular max patch would be perfect) and experiment. The second sample player is a cross faded looper with no clicks. The signal is then triggered by an envelope and sent through a spectral filter. Great for bringing static drum sounds to life. Record your experiments to file and then cut up your individual samples in your favourite editor.
Here are some example sound files:
There I was thinking Autechre had moved on and had lost their magic touch with their two last releases Quaristice and Oversteps. We know them for their beat driven alternative time signature electronics, but what they were doing with their last two releases is anyones guess. Welcome back Autechre. Move of Ten is a work of genius.

random range tool by Filament May 2010 Download
Choose the range with the rslider between 0-127, the speed and smoothness (timing in ms) of the transition and the integer number moves randomly within the range selected. Also good for random panning.
GrainCube – Electroacoustic Reaktor Collaboration
“A free granular electroacoustic Reaktor Collaboration between DevSnd, Rachmiel, TwistedTools & Antonio Blanca.
GrainCube is a four part granular processing instrument with numerous randomizing functions and modulation capabilities that allow for indescribable sonic mischief. The heart of GrainCube is a 400mb sample map of exclusive sample material from Richard Devine & Josh Kay of DevineSound. GrainCube is a collaboration between DevineSound & Rick Scott (Rachmiel), with additional programming and GUI tweaks by Igor Shilov of Twisted Tools. An additional version is also available for the Jazzmutant Lemur, re-imagined by Antonio Blanca.
Richard Devine is one of the most highly respected sound designers in our industry and here he gives away the result of an electroacoustic collaboration with RachMiel: a unique new Reaktor instrument. Not only that, but he’s created a special Lemur version alongside Lemur-programmer genuis Antonio Blanca for the JazzMutant community.
Richard Devine’s unique approach to sound is hugely in demand and the Lemur Cube’s two granular samplers are packed with an entire library of original sound content. The randomisations inside the Reaktor patch make it a sound sculpture piece that never plays the same sound twice. The in-depth control provided by the Lemur template is perfect for guiding the chaos.
The twisted textures provided by DevineCube are ideal to add soundscapes and sound fx to any project, or even throw in your own samples into the waveform window (define the samples range in the main window) and see what comes out!

Tom Erbe: ”William Brent, Daniel Arias and I have been spending some of this summer porting the SoundHack plugins to Pd and Max/MSP format. So far only 7 of the plugins are done for Pd (Macintosh, Windows and Linux) and Max/MSP (Macintosh). Version 3 features +decimate, +chebyshev, +matrix, +compand, +delay, +pitchdelay and +bubbler. I hope to get the Max/MSP for Windows version ready shortly. Also we will be adding +binaural, +morphfilter, +spectralcompand and+spectralgate to this bundle in about 2 months. They are being ported now, but are slightly more difficult to port.”
MaxMSP patch for creating window functions for granular synthesis, spectral analysis, etc. This patch allows you to create, view, and save them to disk. Built from ‘standard’ MaxMSP 4.6 objects – no third-party objects/libraries required. Cross-platform (Mac & Windows) compatible. Works with Max 5.
FTM is an extension for Max/MSP providing a small and simple real-time object system and a set of optimized services.
Multi-representation overlap-add signal processing
Gabor is a set of Max/MSP externals based on FTMlib providing a unified framework for overlap-add signal processing using a variety of different techniques such as:
- granular synthesis
- PSOLA
- FOF synthesis
- STFT based techniques
- additive synthesis
- spectral peak tracking, auto and cross-correlation, etc.
Gabor uses fmat floating-point matrices to represent grains, elementary waveforms, spectra, spectral envelopes, sets of partials or any other set of coefficients.
The Gabor package is released within the FTM distributions.
hybrid sampler / synth
Combining 3 samplers and 3 oscillators to give many forms of sound design, including wavetable, granular, phase distortion, morphing, spectral and looping. More spice is added with granulizing, ring modulation and all the (un)usual envelopes, LFOs and filter options.
Scylla is a VST instrument capable of sample-playback combined with subtractive synthesis to produce a wide variety of sonic possibilities ranging from lush pads to far-out soundscapes and effects via scorching leads and chunky bass. Scylla can be used for most any application and is only limited by the user’s imagination.
Scylla includes three different types of oscillators that can be modified to a wide variety of styles. Three built-in samplers can accommodate .wav audio samples, which can be played back in grain table, waveform, sample or single hit format. All the audio can be modified and modulated through LFO, volume and filter envelopes, Ring-Modulation, and Unison.
